You're not being a yes-gal at all, Slim. One of the many reasons I'm so crazy about you has been your long devotion to "In A Lonely Place." I never see a clip from it without thinking of you.
I came across an interesting interview with Nick Ray recently (on YouTube), in which he explained that they shot an entirely different ending for the film, wherein Dix Steele is arrested for Mildred Atkins' murder.
He decided against it - hated it - so, he said, "I threw everyone off the set except Bogie and Gloria and we improvised the ending." Then they filmed what came from the improv.
I never knew THAT. No wonder it's so real, genuine and powerful.
Now then, when the hell are we getting together while I'm here in New York, Jersey Girl? "To Bury Caesar" opened two weeks ago, which makes me, the writer/director, the most useless man in town. They don't need me anymore to run the show, so I have plenty of time. Get back to me.
